March is National Nutrition Month! We can celebrate and learn about nutrition, healthy foods, and how to fit them into our lives. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has a variety of resources. Here's a video on Sustainable Eating.

"Healthy Eating" is one of the Mariposa Health & Wellness Coalition's four priorities. So, we're taking this opportunity to highlight some of our local food and nutrition resources, including some of our Coalition members.

Mariposa County Food Resources is a website list of local resources created and maintained by local people supporting local families.

On our Resources page, we have a section on "Food & Nutrition Services". Our list of resources includes

BenefitsCal, the website to apply for food assistance.

Manna House, a local nonprofit run by volunteers providing emergency food to all in need. Open Monday-Friday 10am - 2pm at 5127 Charles St. in Mariposa. They do not have a website. Their number is (209) 742-7985.

Mariposa Certified Farmers Market, at 5029 Strong Road in Mariposa. The Winter Market runs November to April on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 3-5pm. The Summer Market will run from May to October every Wednesday, from 4:30-6:30pm. EBT/SNAP is accepted. And check out their Market Match program, where up to $15 of your Farmers Market purchase will be matched when using your EBT card!

At the market, you're likely to encounter some of our Coalition Members, like Raw Roots Farm and Happy Goat Farm.

Mariposa County USDA Commodities, with Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) Sites at Mariposa County Park (3rd Tuesdays, 9-11am), Coulterville Park (1st Fridays, 9-11am), and Greeley Hill Community Center (1st Fridays, 9-11am). Visit their website for more information.

Project FoodBox (Coalition Member!). Their Medically Tailored Food Box program is available to members of qualifying insurance providers. Visit their website to sign up.

Rose Fluharty, Clinical Nutritionist. Rose offers local personalized nutrition counseling and workshops. The website offers a referral form for your healthcare provider, to allow your insurance to be billed for Medical Nutrition Therapy. Find more information and book an appointment on the website.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC), provides nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and other social services, at locations in Mariposa (5131 CA Hwy 140, Mondays and Fridays / 9am-4pm, closed 12-1pm) and Coulterville (5026 Broadway Rd, 4th Mondays / 9am-12:30pm, closed in December). Contact WIC at (209) 383-4859.

The Mariposa Health & Wellness Coalition is an unincorporated community group. It does not have staff, funding, or raise money. It is run by its members, who donate their time and energy. The Mariposa County Tobacco Education Program provides some nonfinancial support because the Coalition promotes smoke-free communities and preventing youth access to nicotine and other tobacco products..
