Our Coalition members, Lauren and Andrew Gilken with Raw Roots Farm, shared some awesome news with us about the Farmers' Market. We couldn't wait to share it with all of you!

Mariposa Certified Farmers’ Market is excited to announce that it has been accepted into the Ecology Center’s Market Match program. This program is California’s healthy food incentive program that matches customers’ CalFresh nutrition assistance benefits at farmers’ markets and other farm-direct sites. It is funded mainly by the CDFA Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program and the California Nutrition Incentive Program. Market Match is distributed by over 50 community-based organizations and farmers’ market operators at over 270 sites across the state. Our farmers’ market in Mariposa is now one of these sites!

Our farmers’ market already accepts EBT/SNAP market-wide. When you swipe your EBT/SNAP card at the market, you receive wooden tokens to then use at any booth at the market that sells eligible items (fruits, vegetables, meat, breads, baked goods, honey, mushrooms, jams and jellies, etc.). Now, with Market Match, you can get up to $15 matched (free to you) in Market Match tokens that can only be used on fresh fruit, vegetables and mushrooms. If you swipe your EBT/SNAP card for $10 in EBT tokens, you will then get $10 in Market Match tokens for free. If you swipe your EBT/SNAP card for $20 in EBT tokens, you will then get only $15 in Market Match tokens for free. These tokens do not expire and you do not need to use them that day. You are only allowed up to $15 in Market Match per day at the farmers’ market.

Finally, if you still have a SunBucks card from this summer, you can use it at the Mariposa Certified Farmers’ Market as well. They work just the same as an EBT/SNAP card and they can also get Market Match.

We are so grateful to have been accepted into the Market Match family and can’t wait to provide this program for our community! The produce at our market is freshly harvested and sold by the farmers themselves at the market. Come check us out! Your support of purchasing direct from your local farmer helps our community.

The Mariposa Health & Wellness Coalition is an unincorporated community group. It does not have staff, funding, or raise money. It is run by its members, who donate their time and energy. The Mariposa County Tobacco Education Program provides some nonfinancial support because the Coalition promotes smoke-free communities and preventing youth access to nicotine and other tobacco products..
